My Students
My students are creative, hilarious, and endearingly hopeful children who, as English as a Second Language learners, do not hear the English language beyond our school. Their parents do not have the language skills to ask them questions about their learning or reinforce lessons learned in school. This upcoming year, I am teaching Special Education in addition to my English as a Second Language population. In order to truly differentiate my teaching and address all the needs of my students, I want to reach the wide range of interests. My students are eager and curious children who enjoy learning. I teach at a Title I school, meaning that nearly all of my students live below the nation-wide poverty line. Beyond the classroom, my students rarely interact with English texts. These new resources would excite the students' naturally inquisitive minds and motivate them to explore topics beyond my explicit teachings.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad along with a charging station for my ESL/ students with special needs classroom, to be used in math stations. We currently have 1 iPad funded and would like to have a small station of a few students using the iPads for fun math games from various educational apps. My students are from low income families who do not get to use modern technology to learn, let alone to play. I would like to create situations during math time where students can rotate and use an exciting 4th grade math app on the iPad to practice and improve their skills on computing with different operations, fractions, measurement, geometry, and word problems.
Nothing beats learning math in a FUN and INTERACTIVE way like using technology in the classroom.
This iPad and charging station will make a huge difference in creating a new way to learn math while giving my students a chance to interact with technology they rarely get to use.
More than half of students from low‑income households
