This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you enter the door to our kindergarten class, you will see twenty boys and girls playing and working with manipulatives ranging from counting counters, letter blocks, a magnifying glass, etc. Though my students come from different backgrounds and nationalities, they all learn through play and hands-on experiences. Many of them speak Spanish as a first language.
They yearn to connect and learn from one another.
My students come to kindergarten with a range of prior knowledge, however, I differentiate instruction to cater to all their needs. They are full of energy, and they learn best from moving and acting out.
My Project
We have a backyard recess area where students run and play daily. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we cannot have the recess equipment there as we typically would. Hula hoops, frisbees and other game equipment have been placed away. So students have a grassy backyard area where they can run, and use their imaginations, sometimes they run out of ideas. The speakers will be used to enhance their recess time. We will use it to play games such as freeze dance, follow the leader and more. It will also be used for educational purposes like our skip counting songs. Other times it will be used to serve as a nice background music for the kids. Music has a way of making us feel comfortable and happy. I hope to give my students a better outdoor experience with music. The door stopper will be used to keep our back door ajar.
