This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in fourth grade. Some have seen more than their share of violence, abandonment, and neglect. Some of my students who are refugees from war-torn countries who, upon entering, had never been to school a day in their lives and yet they try. They work hard, they give their best effort each and every day. They are excited! Look at me, hear me, see me, love me. In my wonderful melting pot, I have four foreign languages represented and our universal language of sign to help us communicate with each other when necessary!

I teach in a Title I school in Hartford, CT where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Many of my students receive free backpacks from neighboring towns. My students want to learn and deserve the very best.

My Project

My students are very excited to be together again. It has been a difficult few years of on-line, and hybrid learning. They are so happy to be with one another again, even if it is behind a mask!

In this project, I have included a butterfly kit.

This kit ties in nature, science and one area we have been researching in reading. They have asked to assist the monarch as well as other butterflies so that we can release them together in the spring. This is something they remember doing together when they were in first grade. the last time they were together for a full, normal year. Our equipment will be used outside during recess as we are sorely lacking any equipment. There is also a set of place value dominoes so that we can play the game and think about our numbers!
