Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an elementary school Librarian in North Alabama, the majority of our students come from middle to low income families including a high number of English Language Learners. Although we are a Title I School, my students still have a love for reading. They love the feel of a good book in their hands. They especially love when it takes them on a wonderful adventure.
I love making my students feel special and important!
They are the future and I do all I can to help them feel successful! Making Library a fun place will provide that motivation to be a reader. In a school with almost a thousand students, I strive to help them all feel loved and appreciated.
My Project
Today's library isn't your typical library from years past. We focus on so much more than checking out books. Students are encouraged to visit the library more often by having areas for sharing and learning through different types of media. It is a place where students are taught how to use available resources.
School libraries are now a place for collaboration, student exploration, production, and a place for social interaction as well as getting books.
As part of my library activities, I have added several puzzles, games, art supplies, etc. to allow students the opportunity to express themselves and enjoy time with others in the library. I need more supplies and games to help the library change things up and keep it exciting!
