My Students
My students are the most talented, interesting, and motivated group of first graders that I've ever met. However, they are faced with many barriers that prevent them from working to their full potential. Those barriers include low income, single parent homes, military families, and a lack of technology. Although my students are very diverse, they each share a strong desire to learn to read, write, and solve problems. That's why having the latest technology gadgets and using the best practices are so important to me.
My Project
I think first graders eat headphones! We are having such a hard time using our technology to learn about financial literacy and economics while finding headphones for everyone in the classroom to use.
We have maxed out our supply of extra headphones and iPad chargers in the classroom!
Some students never brought them, even though they were on their supply list. Many families, especially military families, can't afford to purchase school supplies. Therefore, having a few extra pairs of headphones, as well as some AC adapters, to charge our iPads in the classroom, would relieve the stress of having to send home more notes asking parents to purchase them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
