This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our high school students have been through a lot; they come to school with intense obstacles, and adding the pandemic onto all of that has been devastating to student motivation, progress, and overall academic achievement. As a student support (MTSS), one of my goals is to recognize and promote student achievement.
I have created an initiative called "Fun Fridays for No Fs." With the support of the administration and staff, this project welcomes students who have zero Fs on the last Friday of every month to be invited to the gym for a free hangout during lunch.
This hangout will include music and games (I have requested a boombox speaker, basketballs, cornhole & foosball games, etc). Admission will require students to show their passing grades on their digital grade book (using their phone app or laptop). School staff will also have stations by the gym entryways to pull up grades for those students who do not have access to technology at that time. This will provide an opportunity for students to keep updated and aware of their current grades and invite positive and constructive conversations between students and school staff.
