This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ESE (Special Education)/Reading teacher at a Middle School in Miami. I teach and support students that have Emotional/Behavior Disorders and learning difficulties. My school is a Title I school which means that about 99% of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. The school is in a high-poverty neighborhood so many of my students come from families who struggle financially. As a result, my students endure more problems than average children, and these problems interfere with and hinder their learning.

My Project

These items will be used for incentives during our weekly Fun Friday incentive. Every Friday we reward our students for their positive behaviors. Gift cards will be used as PBIS incentives to allow students to pick a restaurant and order food for our Fun Friday Event. My students are labeled as Emotionally/Behavior disabled and are on point sheets that monitors to correct their unwanted behaviors. With the gift cards, I will be able to allow the students to select where they would like to purchase food from give them an allowance and order food that they can eat during the events. Many of the students are delighted to have food during these functions as sometimes other than school lunch that is the only food that they will have to carry them through the weekend, With this incentive, it will encourage them to come to school more and behave well to be able to learn during class sessions. They will also have snacks that they can take home with them that they can share with siblings.
