Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fun, Fantastic Firsties is what my First-graders decided should be our team name. We are starting afresh, as I am their second teacher of the year. We are starting afresh because this will be the first year they have been in school full-time (God willing it stays that way). We are starting afresh since we are catching up with the learning curve that was derailed by COVID. We are starting afresh because we DESERVE IT!

Our class is going to learn how to read, write and do mathematics, as first-graders, TOGETHER because none of us "know how to do it YET..."

We are developing a growth mindset and learning to reach for our goals. Those goals are high because when you expect more of yourself, then you work harder. Yet, we have a LOT to learn. We are going to learn how to read and write better by playing games and having fun experiences. We are going to fluently add and subtract through having fun with numbers. We are going to GROW a lot this year!

My Project

Math Skills + Language Skills + Social Skills = Well-Rounded Students.

Fun Fridays are a reward for a hard-working class, but there is nothing wrong with good learning taking place.

While gaming is wonderful fun for students, it is full of social interactions with meaningful skill-building opportunities.

Math games with playing cards and spatial problem-solving games, like Jenga, will help students with their number fluency, addition, subtraction, and strategy skills.

A pizzeria to call their own will encourage the Fun, Fantastic Firsties to make and sell pizza, all while practicing executive decision-making skills, marketing, and counting skills.

All the verbal language that will take place during gaming will help the English Learners and the English speakers alike. These gaming items will provide a wealth of learning experiences!
