I have been teaching physical education for eight years in my current location. The school is located in a high need community where there are limited after school programs, high obesity and crime rates, and overwhelming dropout rates.
The largest obstacle is not having enough equipment for the increased participation. The program has grown from 20 kids my first year to 68 boys and girls this year. With limited money from the school district ordering supplies is rare.
The white board will help me tap into the various modalities and the basketballs will allow me to maximize participation. The benefit to the students is learning the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and hard work. An added bonus is getting them involved in something other than their normal sedatary activities.
Your help will make it possible for this program to sustain itslelf and keep the children involved in something positive. My goal is to change the thinking of the children through the Three D's: Dedication, Determination and Discipline.
