Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are wonderful children with big hearts. They come to school with an eagerness to learn and succeed no matter what obstacle comes their way. The majority of them are English language learners who have met the criteria to exit out of the English Language Development program. In order to continue to support their language development we do A LOT of reading in class and at home. We are learning how to become critical thinkers and how to annotate text to help with comprehension.

My students are beyond special because they are able to take information that they have learned from the different texts read and have mature discussions with one another.

They use evidence from their readings and from their own knowledge and experiences to support their thoughts. They acknowledge what the previous speaker has said by either agreeing or respectfully disagreeing before moving on to a different idea. My students have achieved this skill through their dedication to learning and willingness to take risks. They are a wonderful group of children in whom I am proud to call our future leaders.

My Project

My students are learning to read non-fiction text like a historian and researcher. My goal is to have students read various accounts about the same topic, collect notes and have discussions with one another about different perspectives and its impact on the American Revolution. After gathering a multitude of information, students will select a subtopic related to the American Revolution to write a research essay.

In order to guide the students on how to write a research paper, I have to provide a topic that is engaging and provide various desirable resources to read while collecting information.

I want my students to know that good research involves cross referencing information across books and online articles. I want them to learn how to synthesis complex information and write about it in their own words while using evidence from the resources they use.

Will you please help support our class by donating to our book project?
