My Project
After teaching for over twenty-eight years, I understand, if a child is hungry, he/she may not be able to focus on the lesson that is being taught at the time. Some of my students have to eat at school, because food is scarce at home. These students social emotional skills become lacking, because they shy away from others. However, instituting a game day or club day in class, can set the atmosphere for students to just enjoy themselves in class.
Providing students with Uno, Monopoly, and Connect Four will give students an opportunity to interact with others and enjoy a snack.
I have always placed emphasis on teaching the "whole child". My students were beyond elated, when we I purchased minimum games of Uno, Monopoly, Giant Connect Four, and snacks. They wanted to play immediately. They enjoy every moment of playing the games, while snacking and interacting with one another. These games are the perfect outlet for students to embrace a less serious side of themselves and be playful adolescence once again. After all, who does not like to excitedly yell, "Connect Four? Who does not want to when the most games of Uno. Even I enjoy being the banker in Monopoly.
