The students attend a PreK-8 school and are located in a small, rural district in Vermont. There are about 650 students in attendance, and many of the students that attend school here are children of former students, so they come from a very close knit community. The students come from many different backgrounds and have a variety of needs. The school is growing and changing from year to year and with that you have a more diverse population of student needs.
Being a second grade teacher is so much fun!
My students are extremely motivated by choice and flexibility. I have found that the ability to choose really creates a spark in their own learning. With a class of 23, my students are also very social learners. They covet group inquiry and hands-on learning. The students help one another build their understanding through conversation, making mistakes, and problem solving.
Our school is also home to a STEM Lab, Innovation Lab, Enrichment Programs just to name a few. Our school district is an Apple Distinguished Program and an inductee into the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools.
My Project
I strive to center the classroom around my students. Their wants and needs are constantly changing from year to year. This year I have an extra large class of 23 students. They are struggling to manage their bodies within our classroom space.
With flexible seating options such as stackable stools, stadium chairs, yoga blocks, disco seats, and Wobble Chairs it will help the students to maintain their space and focus for a more productive group work time.
With this donation, my students would feel extremely special, much more comfortable, and continue to work hard to develop their understanding of everything that goes on in second grade. A little goes a long way with kids and I hope this is just the beginning!
