Our school is a positive place to learn and grow. We support student learning by creating strong relationships in our classroom and promoting a positive learning environment. This type of environment is crucial to creating an environment that fosters learning.
Kindergarten students are eager to learn and curious about the world around them.
They love hands-on activities, singing songs, and learning through play. We have a full day Kindergarten that includes a strong academic base with lots of opportunities to learn and explore through play-based learning.
My Project
Our students love playing outside! We live in the desert and it is HOT outside. With no shade on our playground, the little equipment we do have (a climber, one slide, and six swings) get so hot we can't even use it. Plus, there are over 60 kids trying to use it at the same time. Our school's budget has been cut and we only have Physical Education class once a week for 1/3 of the school year. Getting my students active during recess time is a MUST!
Our students want to play at recess time!
They ask, "What can we play with?" There are age appropriate toys out there, our school just doesn't have any. I showed them an early childhood catalog to see what kind of fun things are available. Their faces just lit up! They oohed and ahhed at the pictures. They said, "We want to have fun!" Looking at a kid-sized basketball hoop K's face (age 5) was so excited. He said, "That is so fun!" C (age 5) said about our current basketball court, "It is broken and too tall for me to use." G (age 5) wants comet balls that she can throw because they are fun. She said, "I can learn to jump and it helps me throw." Lots of our students want the parachute because it floats up and "We can go under and come out." I (age 5) wants scarves. She said, "I can dance!" Lots of her classmates agreed!
This project is a win-win. The students are happy because they get to play. The teachers are happy because this equipment will get them active and allow them to build their hand-eye coordination, balance, gross motor skills, and team work and gives us a cart to store the equipment in.
