This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Although I teach history, one of my biggest passions as a classroom teacher is helping students learn to love reading. I genuinely believe that every student can learn to love reading once they find the best book for their tastes and interests. I have spent the last several months fundraising to increase the diversity of books in my classroom library across all genres and identities.

As a first-year teacher, I want to inspire kids to enjoy reading through exciting and dynamic texts!

I have noticed that a number of my students who are reluctant to engage with reading have a strong interest in Japanese anime and manga.

To me, manga is the perfect gateway to reading graphic novels, series, and superhero novels. It is my hope that these series will hook students into the reading experience and leave them hungry for more books!
