My Students

I work at a public charter school located on Chicago's Southeast side. Eighty nine percent of our scholars qualify for free or reduced price lunch, and all of them live in the school's surrounding community in the Southeast side of Chicago. I am lucky enough to be a first grade teacher to the most loving, inquisitive, and enthusiastic children I've ever met (yes I'm biased, but it's true!) Every day I am so impressed by their wit, their persistence, and their curiosity. They truly give 100% of themselves each day so that they can reach their fullest potential.

My Project

The magnetic letters and phonics game will help my students in their reading ability, while engaging them with concrete materials and games. The other set of games will be really useful to help bring joy to my classroom. We do not have recess at our school, in addition to very long school days, and my students deserve to have time to play and socialize after their whole day of learning. Not to mention, the games can be educational as well! The games and magnetic letters will be used during a time called Bridge to Greatness, which allow students to independently work together so that I can work individually with students that require more support.
