My students need timers, calculators, meter sticks, and clipboards to make their science experiments mobile.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Feazel's classroom raised $558
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach in a program designed to provide the least restrictive environment for students identified as gifted. Once a week identified students are bused from the twenty elementary schools around our district to our building. Each grade attends one full day of the week. Monday I teach fifth grade, Tuesday is fourth grade, Wednesday is third grade etc.
The moment they walk in our doors, students are able to take ownership of their learning and enjoy experiences that may not be available to them otherwise.
Our students choose their own classes from a variety of topics based largely on art and STEM philosophies. Our program is always evolving based on what our students want to learn. We incorporate problem-based learning, respectful communication, and critical thinking skills into much of what we do. This is a safe and comfortable place for our students to be themselves, surrounded by other kiddos that share a love for learning.
My Project
Our Metrics in Science class offers students an opportunity to create and facilitate experiments using metric measurement. They use materials available in our building, as well as anything they would like to bring in from home to answer Testable Questions they create independently.
It is an incredible feeling to witness students taking ownership of an experiment from start to finish!
If this project is funded, our class will gain mobility and the ability to take our experiments beyond the walls of our classroom.
The timers will allow students to complete any experiment using a dependent variable of time, measuring the speed of our participants or chemical/physical reactions. Calculators will be used for tabulating data, converting measurements, finding averages and checking our results. Since this is a "Metrics" class, meter sticks will allow the students to measure distance using centimeters. This comes in very useful for experiments that require a specific distance to be located or marked. All of our experiments use tools of measurement to prove or disprove our theories. Giving students ease of access to these tools will foster even more independence in our scientists.
At the end of each semester we host a GALACTIC Project Night. Every student in this class will be creating their own "Science Fair" style project using the Scientific Method to bring their query to life.
