My Students

"Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never war"-Theodore Von Karmen. My students are eager to do both!

I teach twenty-two curious, natural born third-grade scientists in a small Title I school with approximately three hundred-fifty students and an amazing and supportive principal.

My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEAM correlations (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Science) whenever possible.

My Project

The Lakeshore STEM Bundle is overflowing with activities that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. I plan to use the materials as a supplemental and enrichment activity for students who show an interest above and beyond our traditional curriculum. Whether it is building a marble roller coaster or learning how a parachute works, my students will learn how to work together to achieve a goal (and learn how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math work together in our world). Students will be introduced to STEM and the processes of science by learning about scientists, what scientists do, and the tools they use to conduct experiments. Students will draw what a scientist looks like, analyze their drawings and other pictures and be led to conclude that EVERYONE is a scientist. They will then participate and conduct experiments, using the many tools provided in this bundle.

By working on STEM projects, my students will not only gain perspective into the careers in STEM, but also their interest will be piqued in exploring these fields themselves by participating in hands-on experiences.

Additionally, students will to share their knowledge and insights with other students in our school and with parents and other school community members. These materials will provide additional resources that will help my students succeed!
