My Students

I am a proud teacher of second graders in an urban school district. Our school is tucked away in a neighborhood of single family homes and a few local businesses. We have a number of students that walk or ride their bikes to school with their siblings, while others ride one of four buses that transport students to and from school. Nearly 80% of our student population are from low-income homes.

My Project

My 2nd grade class just returned from a 2-week field trip at our local health and science museum. Each day we traveled to the museum to engage in various activities pertaining to the field of engineering.

Students will be able to transfer their learning to help them build "a STEAM Park full of dynamic moving rides, fun games, and scenes using the special selection of LEGO bricks." They will be able to "grow their understanding of gears, motion, measurement, and solving problems together in a fun and engaging way."

The STEAM Park LEGO set will be used during math and science, as well as during recess where they can continue to explore. This set includes lesson plans and picture cards of various models students can build together.
