This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.

My Project

We are a STEAM focused school and are in need of materials focused science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics . I am requesting hard cases and charging ports to protect and charge the Wonder Dash Robots our class had recently received. The wooden blocks, magnetic tiles and blocks, straw builders, foam balls, and play doh will provide my students with the opportunity to practice STEAM activities that promote engineering, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The utility cart and the storage bins will help me to organize and manage the STEAM materials so the students can access the materials on a regular and consistent basis. We are also building our reading capacity and classroom library so we are in need of Guided Reading leveled books.

My students love hands-on activities and the STEAM materials will provide them with opportunities to practice engineering, critical thinking, and creativity as they work collaboratively together.

In essence, our goal is to develop a mini STEAM lab in the classroom where they will practice building different kinds of structures with different materials. This will allow them to plan, design, construct, and improve their designs. The labels will help me to organize the materials and the sheet protectors will help me display the various STEAM challenges for the students to solve together. They will also be able to improve their reading skills as they read in their independent Guided Reading leveled books. With your donation, my students will be well-rounded and successful readers, scientists, engineers and problem solvers.
