Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from an inner city. We are a title one school, which means that 98% of our children are on free and reduced lunch. The majority of my students are ESOL, so English is not their first language. I also have a few ESE (exceptional student education), who are visual and tactile learners.
My students enjoy learning.
Sadly, many have no access to technology beyond the walls of the classroom, so it is very important that I give them the opportunity to have access to technology while they are in my class.
My Project
Our school would like to become a STEAM School. STEAM is educational methodology that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as a way to guide student investigation, discussion, and critical thinking. The end goal is to have learners who will be able to take calculated risk, engage in hands-on learning, become problem-solvers and collaborative individuals who can one day become tomorrow’s innovators and leaders.
The Surface Pro, Chromebook, and Fire tablets will add the T (Technology) component of STEAM within our class.
It will complement the mathematics and science engagements that area already taking place within my classroom. Additionally, it will make a difference in my students learning by enabling them to do better in class. Students will use the devices to expand their understanding of current grade level skills in subtraction, multiplication and division through the use of digital applications such as iReady and Reflex Math. Within science and math class, my students will be able to tap into the digital era. The Surface Pro, Chromebook, and Fire tablets will truly be a tool in which students will use to alter their education and propel them into a future of academic success.
