Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 21st Century learners, who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 24 curious, natural born, third-grade scientists in a small Title I school, that has an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.
Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible.
I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.
Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area, so grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
In my classroom, my goal is to provide students with as many technological opportunities as I can to enhance student learning and to bridge the digital divide. We have received laptops and iPads through donations, where students are encouraged to create and explore. Students are writing stories and learning to use the computer as a writing and research tool. Sometimes students' stories get "lost" or accidentally deleted from the desktop. Providing each student with their own flash drive to save and store their work will help to avoid those "accidents". Also, the head phones requested will be given to each student, so that they have their own personal set to use throughout the year. In addition, the folders will not only store published work products, it will also be a learning tool as instructional resources will be added to them that they can use throughout the year. My students will have an electronic portfolio of their work, as well as a collection of published work to share at the end of the year.
This project will make a huge difference in my classroom and will encourage students to create and publish stories and research reports.
The flash drives and folders will be a tremendous tool as my students learn to use and navigate technology. In addition, students will have access to all of their work on any computer in the school and at home. It would be great for my students to have these resources at the start of school year.
