it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hunger hinders learning. At our school, a Title 1 school in rural Hawaii, food insecurity is a daily struggle. Many students face empty cupboards at home, and parents working multiple jobs leave little time for meal preparation. School surveys revealed students overwhelmingly desire more food availability, citing it as a key factor in improving attendance.
This project aims to provide nutritious snacks and meals, like granola bars, fruit cups, and whole-grain options, directly to students.
These items will combat hunger, improve focus, and boost energy levels, creating a more conducive learning environment. Addressing food insecurity will directly reduce absenteeism and foster a sense of community.
Our goals are to alleviate student hunger, enhance academic performance, and create equitable access to resources. We want to ensure no student learns on an empty stomach.
Our students are resilient, culturally rich, and full of potential. Despite facing hardship, they possess a strong desire to learn and contribute to their community. They deserve the opportunity to thrive. Your support will directly provide essential nourishment, empowering them to focus on their education and build a brighter future.
