My students come to art class ready to create, ready to learn, and excited to see what we will be doing that day.
I teach at a Title I school in Georgia where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast.
Our school serves students k-5 with a diverse ethnicity. I use STEAM projects to collaborate and reinforce common core standards with the arts. Differentiation within classes varies and require creativity and a variety of supplies to keep students engaged.
My Project
This project will help students with hygiene and hunger at the start and finish of each school day. Many times students come to school hungry and dirty. After a long weekend or holiday, we see more children hurrying to the cafeteria for breakfast.
No child wants to stand out for being dirty or smelly.
The soap will help with cleaning hands and faces at school and can be taken home for a more thorough cleansing. The cereal assortment will help when they arrive late and have not eaten. Snacks can be given at the end of the day to take home if needed.
With these generous donations, my students can focus in class without the distraction from hunger pains and lack of energy. Being able to take hygiene items and snacks home to share with younger siblings would be an added blessing.
