Help me give my students books they enjoy reading and can read independently! They have a high interest in non-fiction and want to learn about the world around them!
My first graders come into the classroom daily filled with energy! They have a variety of learning styles and diverse needs. They show enthusiasm for learning and inspire me to be the best teacher I can be. I love being at work with these little sponges, eager to learn!
This year looks very different and we're needing some modern book titles for our classroom library so that the students have books they're wanting to get back to reading!
First grade is an important year with a focus on reading fluency and comprehension. These skills set foundations for my students' future. I want to provide my students with a variety of high interest books to gear them up and help them achieve their reading goals!
My Project
My students' book bins get re-filled daily while selecting books from our classroom library. They use these books for Read to Self as part of our literacy block. They peruse the shelves in our classroom for books that meet their purpose, interest, and comprehension level.
This particular group of students has a high interest in non-fiction.
They love learning about animals, science, and space. Our classroom library is needing an upgrade in those categories along with more current titles too. I want them to keep developing their love for reading so I want them to have books that interest them! I know that when children have books that make reading fun for them, they continue to read!
These books will allow me to give my students texts on their level and in their interest categories that they will be able to analyze and use their fresh decoding skills to gain confidence in their reading abilities.
