Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a special education resource teacher working with elementary school students. The amazing students that I teach have specific academic and social/emotional/behavioral needs, and many of my students are also English language learners.
This project reaches my hard-working students with special needs through individualized, visually engaging materials, as well as sensory support and reward items for positive reinforcement of their incredible learning progress.
To further assist students in meeting their academic goals and learning needs, I would like a colored printer to prepare visually engaging classwork with colors to enhance student engagement on assignments. In contrast to the current black-and-white printer we are using, a color printer would help enhance instructional materials for my students by showcasing academic concepts with more appealing colored content. The color-printed materials would also support their social-emotional learning and a better understanding of concepts such as emotional states and feelings.
My students will also benefit from further strengthening their literacy skills (e.g., decoding, encoding, comprehension) and mathematical skills with engaging, reusable, hands-on materials and tools. My students will appreciate items including reading trackers and pointers for independent and small group reading, as well as finger grips for writing. My students would use all the different learning tools to enhance their academic success towards Nevada content standards and support individualized learning goals.
Furthermore, to better reinforce my students’ academic progress and reward their social-emotional learning, as well as excellent citizenship and positive behaviors, they would be incentivized to receive small rewards/snacks on a short-term and long-term basis.
