This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with students who face emotional and behavioral challenges, including depression, anxiety, and attention difficulties. Many of my students struggle with motivation, not because they lack the ability, but because they are overwhelmed, unsupported, and sometimes simply hungry or unwell. This project is designed to provide a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment that helps students re-engage with their education.

The goal of this project is to motivate students to complete their assignments and invest in their learning by addressing their emotional and physical needs through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

I aim to:

Foster a classroom climate that feels safe, welcoming, and consistent.

Provide tangible supports such as snacks, calming tools, and organizational aids.

Teach coping strategies for managing emotions and staying focused.

Encourage self-reflection and growth by showing students the intrinsic value of their education.

Help students build confidence and develop positive habits around schoolwork and goal-setting.

When students are physically uncomfortable, emotionally distressed, or lack support at home, schoolwork can feel impossible. By meeting basic needs and providing encouragement and tools for self-regulation, I am helping students access learning in a way that feels manageable and meaningful. My classroom becomes a safe place—both emotionally and physically—where students know they are cared for and capable.

Activities and Interventions:

Use of flexible seating, fidgets, and calming materials

Positive reinforcement systems and recognition of progress

One-on-one support to break down tasks setting achievable goals

Journaling and reflection on academic and personal growth

Expected Outcomes:

Improved emotional regulation and coping strategies

Enhanced sense of safety and belonging

Growth in student self-esteem, motivation, and academic achievement
