Fueling Curiosity: Hands-On Science Investigations in Boats and Light!
Help me give my students with the materials they need for their Science Investigatory Project! They are eager and excited to begin their experiments right after spring break.
I’m Ms. Forfieda, a J-1 Science teacher at Unalaska City School District in remote Alaska.
This spring, my middle school students will be diving into hands-on science investigations, with some groups exploring the mechanics of boats and the properties of light. To make these projects successful, we need essential materials that will allow students to design, build, and test their ideas in real-world applications. These resources will enhance their understanding of scientific concepts through experimentation, problem-solving, and teamwork.
My goal is to provide my students with meaningful, inquiry-based learning experiences that spark curiosity and deepen their scientific knowledge. These projects will encourage critical thinking and innovation, helping students connect classroom lessons to the world around them.
What makes my students special is their diverse cultural backgrounds—our class is a mix of Asian, American, Mexican, Samoan, Native Alaskan, and Russian students. Despite living in a remote location with limited resources, they are eager learners, ready to take on challenges and explore science through hands-on discovery.
