My students need 54 high interest book titles including "Princess Bride", "Autobiography of My Dead Brother", and "Monster" for the classroom library.

My Students

Do you remember going to your school library and being able to choose from hundreds of books? Unfortunately, my students won't have that memory because their school library is empty.

The only available books for my seventh graders to read are the books I've brought in for my classroom library, and even this is looking pretty scarce.

My students attend one of the lowest performing schools in an urban region of Pennsylvania. Despite the daily hardships they face, my students are eager to learn.

My Project

My students have big dreams for the future, yet many are far below where they need to be academically. Being accepted into a good high school is one of the only ways for my students to get out of the low-performing neighborhood schools. Seventh grade is very important because the grades and PSSA scores from this year are what shows on high school applications. My students need to read, read, read in order to improve their reading levels and their scores on the PSSA before the year is over.

A class library will not only benefit my students academically but it will also show them that not everyone has forgotten about them; that there are people out there that believe in them and in their dreams.
