This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My primary students are energetic learners who have a thirst for learning. Living in an urban neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, our students have shown that they can face any challenges that come their way!

As their teacher, I want their learning environment to be welcoming and comfortable for all my little learners.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Luckily, from the minute they walk into our school, I focus on their future and make sure I meet all their needs.

One of those needs is keeping their bellies full. During the pandemic, students had constant access to food within their homes. This habit has not left them. I want to make sure during the day I have healthy snacks readily available for them. For the majority of my students, the food they receive at school is the best they will receive. I do not want them to go hungry. My little "firsties" eat lunch early and that leaves them hungrier a lot sooner.

The students also eat a lot of junk food. I want them to see that healthier choices are better fuel for their little growing bodies! These choices can still taste yummy!

I hope the snacks will help them learn to make better choices away from school and know that healthy foods will be better fuel for their bodies!
