Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Located in Phoenix, Arizona our beautiful elementary school serves approximately 550 students ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. For being a relatively small school, our students are quite diverse. Our students come from different backgrounds, ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds; with a majority having English as their second language.

Our students lack the fuel and energy needed to stay focused and engaged during the school day.

I want my students to know that, through these tough times and online learning, I love them and want to show my support in their continuous growth and courage during these unprecedented times in any way I can.

My Project

There are so many unknowns that we have experienced and food should not be one of them. Due to the global pandemic, some parents have struggled to put food on the table for their families. The items in my list (e.g. fruit snacks, gatorade, mac and cheese, granola bars, etc.) will be distributed to low-income families to help fuel the mind and lead to stronger focus and academic successes.

I believe it is my duty to serve my students to their best abilities and in doing so, having the energy and fuel to be successful in the (virtual) "classroom" is important as food is important for brain development.

Relieving some of the burden of having to buy snacks and small food items for my students will greatly benefit our families and lead to continued success in the classroom.
