My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am determined to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences to ensure their future is nothing less than hopeful and easy.

They are doctors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers; They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long successful careers.

They like to move, are ecstatic to gather any knowledge throughout the day, and love positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, and they all receive a free lunch due to their socioeconomic status. These things may seem to prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical"; however, these children are DETERMINED to learn and come every single day with smiles on their faces. I am just as determined to make this happen for them.

My Project

At my school, 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of these students come to school hungry each day, and often breakfast and lunch are not enough to fill them up. They are constantly saying they are hungry throughout the day. I need these snacks to keep in my classroom at all times to ensure that my students do not go hungry. We eat lunch at 1 pm and they eat breakfast at 8 am! That is WAY too long to go without something in their tiny bellies!

My students need healthy snacks such as granola bars to keep them energized for learning all day long!

These snacks would allow my students to have enough energy to keep on learning throughout the day until our late lunchtime! If I can continue to make sure they get a snack, they will be able to better focus without worrying about their bellies growling and distracting their learning throughout the day. They will gain the fundamental knowledge necessary to grow this year to be successful in the next grade level!

This project is important because my students have a very long day and need different snacks to help them stay engaged in learning throughout the entire school day.
