My Students
I work at an all girls, Title I school in SE, DC. At our school, we strive at all times to be excellent. These girls never let me down.
At just 4 years old, my students manage to make me laugh, smile and beam with pride every single day.
This school year, my students are in need of snacks to support their learning and some new materials for centers. These materials will help ensure my students have the best chance of success every day!
My Project
This year, my school decided to cut morning snack for early childhood students in an effort to save some money. While students are still provided with free breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack, they have gotten used to morning snack and need the energy to fuel their learning throughout the morning. Parents have been bringing in snacks for students, but we want to ensure that we will have enough every day. This project will help supplement the snacks we have received from parents and will hopefully last us at least through December, if not longer.
While the snacks will help fuel their learning, new centers materials will provide them with opportunities to play while they learn.
We are seeking new floor puzzles and play sand for centers. Puzzles will help students build their concentration and problem solving skills. Students also feel an immense sense of accomplishment the first time they finish a puzzle themselves. Play sand is the main component of our sensory table. Students can explore letters, numbers, shapes, animals and other curriculum materials all buried in the sand. Students can spend hours play and exploring at the sensory table. This project will help to ensure that students have enough sand to explore for the whole school year.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
