My Students
Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen. Leonardo da Vinci
Art and literature go hand in hand. Unfortunately, our school has a limited budget to provide great tools to allow my students creativity to shine.
My students are amazing, creative kids.
They live on a reservation, so the poverty level is high. We have a great school that aims to give our students every opportunity it can. My goal is to provide tools for my students to interpret the literature they read in their own way.
My Project
I have discovered in my three years that my students love to use art to help them visualize what we read. We create at least one art project with each novel/unit. Students create alternate endings, found poems, and detailed scenes of the works that we read. Being able to draw and really explore the details helps them to get more from what they read. The most important project that my students create is a comic book interpretation of Romeo and Juliet.
Please help me provide a rich assortment of tools for my students to choose from.
I don't want my students to be limited in their creativity. It is important that they not have to narrow their vision due to lack of materials and tools.
