From Waste to Riches

Help me give my students a Lomi table top electric composter for the classroom.

My Project

My students are passionate about sustainability and science. We learn about composting, and our school participates in the city composting programs. They do a pretty good job separating during lunch, but because everything happens off-site they don't really understand the value of composting.

Having the LOMI composter would allow my students to see how composting works and be able to use the compost to enrich our soil in the school garden and beyond.

Creating concrete learning opportunities helps students to conceptualize difficult concepts. My hope is by creating this classroom experience where they can see how their organic waste is transformed in to organic fertilizer will further impassion them to separate better at school and teach their families to compost at home.
