My Students

My students are a dynamic group of hard-working, driven individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds and walks of life. More than forty percent of our students receive free or reduce lunch, twenty-five percent are Language Learners and some have an IEP or 504 Plans. Hardship does not even begin to describe what some of these students have witnessed in their life. Some have arrived here as refugees, others do not have access to bare necessities but many have flourished in all aspects of their journey and have the common goal to learn and become successful.

My Project

Many of my students are accustomed to experiencing science in a two-dimensional form and many have not had any real exposure to inquiry-based models. In order for my students to be exposed to labs and research-based science, they need to be able to practice and put their inquiring minds into action! My AP Environmental class lacks the necessary materials needed to meet curriculum standards and put learning into practice. We are hoping to purchase kits that allow students to experiment with the theory they are learning in a way that is relevant to their life and learning. This project is even more important to use due to the impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic, as many students have not been able to experience a hands-on approach to learning. By immersing students back into three-dimensional lessons, the goal is to re-spark a desire for inquiry and learning.
