My Students
Throughout the second grade year my students are able to experience fantastic activities such as an apple tasting and a nature walk near Lake Michigan. Currently I take pictures of my students doing these activities. I would like to put the cameras in my students' hands.
I am the lucky teacher of 28 second graders.
My students come from more than ten different countries and speak 14 different home languages! My school focuses on immigrant, refugee, and neighborhood students. Over 85% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My students deserve high quality materials and experiences, which are often denied to them due to home and school budget issues. You can help give them the high quality educational experiences they deserve.
My Project
In second grade we create portfolios filled with projects, activities and memories that students have completed throughout the year. When my students have pictures in their portfolios they are ones that I have taken. I would like to give my students the independence of taking their own pictures. The cameras will give my students the opportunity to take pictures of the world through their eyes. Their pictures will be put in their portfolios, used to illustrate their poems and stories, and hung on bulletin boards in our classroom.
