My students need gardening supplies, composter, and healthy snacks to build a sustainable garden.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Singh's classroom raised $495

My Students
Over 90% of our student population receives free lunch. Many of my students travel over 90 minutes to have a free breakfast to start their day. The students, though highly economically disadvantaged, are always in school and on-time. They are always eager to learn through reading, demonstrations, and hands-on activities (their favorite). My school pushes us to provide the students will valuable literacy, technical, and lab skills to have our students pursue a career in STEM.
We do everything we can but with limited supplies the students cannot conduct hands-on experiments and are missing the connections made through exploratory learning.
Since we are a 6-12 school, it is our obligation and responsibility to ensure every middle school student has the science skill set to perform in their high school science classes if they move onto other high schools.
My Project
The students will create and manage a sustainable garden using a variety of heirloom seeds. They will compost organic food waste in the composter using the compost starter pack to add to our fertile soil. They will plan the garden and will weed, till, plant, and water using shovels, rakes, trowels, mini seed starters, gloves, hand rakes, and water cans.
By donating to the project you will ensure that my students will conduct small experiments using the experimental design process.
The students will record plant height, growth, soil temperature, and moisture levels to generate a database for the project. They will start the seeds in a mini greenhouse and then plant the seedlings into the outdoors garden. This project will help my students understand time-management, effective planning, teamwork, and responsibility.
Since the students will be working outdoors, they will stay hydrated and energized with water and healthy snacks.
