This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Numerous studies have shown that expanding both vocabulary and background knowledge can boost a student's ability to read and comprehend, resulting in a more proficient reader. My second graders and I will begin our learning journey together this coming fall with the Knowledge portion of our English Language Arts curriculum which aims to expand both knowledge and vocabulary. We will begin our year by exploring tall tales and fairy tales, move on to learning about early Asian civilizations, ancient Greek civilizations, and be intrigued by the stories of Greek mythology. We will continue our studies by exploring the cycles of nature and be transported back in time to learn about the history of the United States during our Civil War and Westward Expansion units.

Your support of this project will help to fill our second grade classroom library with both nonfiction and fiction texts that will greatly expand the knowledge and vocabulary of our students.

These books and related hands-on life cycle models will support and expand upon our curriculum resources and allow students to delve deeper into the topics they are learning about during the first half of the year. We would greatly appreciate your support in this project to help our students strengthen both their knowledge of words as well as their knowledge of the world around them!
