Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love teaching kids to write. At the beginning of the year they can write random letters, then they realize that they can combine letters to create words. It is exciting when they understand that they can combine words to express ideas through sentences!

The kindergarten students in my class are 5 & 6 years old.

They are more than eager to make new friends, please the adults in their lives and learn new things. They enter school excited and I want them to maintain that excitement as the year progresses.

My Project

Reading and writing are interdependent. One strengthens the other. Beginning writers use phonics to "write the sounds they hear" in words. My classroom is well stocked with resources that support beginning readers. However, our supply of writing materials is lacking. I am requesting supplies that will help my students become successful writers. I envision groups of students moving around the room using the brightly colored clipboards to record their ideas, stories, classroom words, observations, etc. The dry erase boards are a very Eco-friendly and cost effective way for them to get lots of practice writing. The wide, dotted line Smart Start Paper contains a "grassy bottom" and a "sky blue top" to encourage students to form letters correctly.

Thank you for reading about how you can help my students become successful writers.

With the adoption of the new Common Core State Standards students are expected to write at a much more advanced level. Students can meet and exceed these expectations when they are provided opportunities for writing. These supplies will give them the opportunities they need.
