Help me give my students floor pillows, a lamp, rug and other items for a warm and welcoming reading environment. Students work on reading different leveled texts and novels in class. Creating this environment allows themto enjoy the books they read.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year students will be engaging in different texts and novels that will introduce them to multiple literacy concepts. Many of these concepts will require our readers to discuss, analyze and write about their understanding and interpretation of a given text.
Many times this can be a difficult task for many students especially if students do no have the right materials to be able to complete the task.
The floor pillows, a lamp, rug and other materials that I am asking for would be to help students be able to take notes, annotate, and write about what they are reading. My goal, is to create an environment in which students feel comfortable collaborating with their peers but also have a space in which they can read and write about what they are thinking without being in their seat all day.
The students that I service are dedicated and hard working students. Many of my students come into my classroom with a negative outlook on reading whether it be because its not their favorite subject or many see it as challenging. However my goal every year is to help my students find the joy in reading and to be able to make connections to the real world and find books, characters, and authors they can relate to. While also pushing their thinking beyond the text. By creating a more welcoming and engaging environment I can see my students coming into the classroom a little more excited to learn and to read.
