My students need a new carpet for story time, lessons and discussions, and to simply have an unstained place to sit during group work.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Gaffield's classroom raised $535

My Students
We are a 3 year old magnet school in an old building. The very old large carpet is not appealing with all its stains and fraying. Our plant manager has done his best at cleaning it on several occasions, yet the stains keep reappearing.
My class is comprised of 23 second grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds who attend an urban math/science/technology magnet elementary school.
Approximately 70% of the school population are identified as disadvantaged or Title 1 eligible. The students learn in various student groupings. They include large groups, small groups, pairs, and individuals.
My Project
A new carpet will enhance our classroom which will facilitate large group lessons and discussions in different student groupings. The large carpet will allow for all students to sit comfortably, to have whole class discussions about a story we read, and to discuss the latest science investigation we did. It will also allow us to have the whole class share problem solving skills (solving a math word problem) and to have a whole class discussion any subject area. In addition, during Universal Access Time, students are able to work in small groups on the carpet such as reading and discussing a leveled book together or working on literature circle tasks in their small groups.
Students will love to have a new large carpet to help in their learning and to aid in building our classroom community of learners.
A large carpet will allow for students to work as a class for large group discussions in any subject area, to work in groups for literacy tasks with literature circles, and to work in teams to solve math word problems. Through your generous donations, this can be a reality for my classroom of students for years to come.
