This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Tangrams are a timeless and versatile educational tool that promotes cognitive development, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills in young children. These geometric puzzles consist of seven simple shapes, which, when arranged creatively, form a variety of intricate designs and silhouettes. For our pre-k students, tangrams offer a hands-on approach to learning fundamental mathematical concepts, geometry, and spatial awareness in a playful and engaging manner.

The introduction of tangrams into our pre-k classroom will enrich our learning environment and complement our existing educational activities.

Some of the benefits for our little learners include:

1. Promoting Spatial Awareness: Through manipulating tangram pieces, our students will develop a deeper understanding of spatial relationships, symmetry, and shape recognition. These foundational skills are essential for future academic success, particularly in mathematics and geometry.

2. Encouraging Critical Thinking: Tangrams encourage our young learners to think critically and analytically as they explore different arrangements and solutions to complete puzzles. This process fosters problem-solving skills, resilience, and a growth mindset, empowering our students to approach challenges with confidence and creativity.

3. Enhancing Fine Motor Skills: As children manipulate and manipulate the tangram pieces, they refine their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These physical interactions not only support their academic development but also lay the groundwork for activities such as writing and drawing.
