From Picture Books to Chapter Books: 3rd Graders Grow!

My students need series and chapter books, including Mr. Putter and Tabby, The Magic Tree House and Young Cam Jansen, to help them bridge the gap from picture books to chapter books. Our current class library is sparse.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read a chapter book? Or how about when you discovered a new series and ran out and bought each new book as it was released? My third grade students are ready to experience the joy and anticipation that stems from series and chapter books.

My third grade students LOVE books!

They are voracious readers. When they filled their book boxes with books from our class library, excitement was in the air. They were discussing their favorites, trading books, and reading together. Unfortunately, our class library is sparse and lacking in current and popular books. This excitement will fade quickly as they zoom through the picture books in our library.

My Project

As my students adapt to their new classroom and build their reading stamina, they will need and deserve to have chapter books and series books that they are be able to share and discuss with their classmates. I want my students to continue to experience the anticipation that comes along with an unread book.

My students come from homes with limited resources and their reading opportunities are often limited to the classroom.

Your donation to this project will help stock our class library with popular series and chapter books to keep those wonderful feelings alive and provide my students with ample opportunities to read.
