Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Esperanza Rising is a powerful novel that brings history, culture, and empathy to life for 5th graders. This story about a young girl's journey from privilege to poverty during the Great Depression touches on themes of resilience, identity, and immigrant experience.

This novel will be at the heart of an engaging reading, writing, and critical thinking unit.

Students will build essential literacy skills as we read and analyze the text together, exploring rich vocabulary, figurative language, character development, and historical context. We'll use close reading strategies to deepen comprehension, make inferences, and support claims with evidence.

Your support will put a meaningful, diverse, and age-appropriate novel into the hands of students who are ready to be inspired and challenged. Investing in this book is investing in their literacy, empathy, and character.
