Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sensory items play a vital role in helping students regulate their emotions, focus their attention, and feel more grounded during counseling sessions. Many students—especially those with anxiety, ADHD, autism, or trauma—struggle to process emotions or stay engaged through traditional talk-based support. Sensory tools like fidgets, weighted items, and textured objects give students a healthy outlet to self-soothe, reduce stress, and improve their readiness to talk, reflect, and learn coping skills. By incorporating sensory support, counseling becomes more inclusive, calming, and effective for all learners. These tools empower students to take an active role in their emotional regulation and build lifelong coping strategies in a supportive environment.

My students are resilient, curious, and full of potential.

Many of them face daily challenges that impact their ability to stay focused, manage emotions, or feel comfortable in a traditional school setting. Some are navigating anxiety, ADHD, or sensory processing needs, while others are coping with trauma or difficult life circumstances. Despite these challenges, they come to school each day with a desire to grow, connect, and succeed. What makes them truly special is their willingness to try—and sensory tools give them the support they need to do just that. These items provide a safe, calming outlet that helps them regulate their emotions, participate more fully in counseling, and develop the confidence to face their challenges head-on.
