From Our Stage to Broadway! Big Dreams for Little Leaders
Help me give my students the tools needed to support our schools Performing Arts Program in its early stages. We need costumes & supplies to build our sets and perform for our school community.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young leaders in a Title I school in Staten Island, New York. About a year ago we received a grant from Disney Musicals in schools to put on our schools first play. We worked together with Disney teaching artist to put on The Lion King. This experience has changed our students lives and has given them the tools necessary to succeed in the arts. Our whole school has been transformed by this experience. This year we will be putting on our second play Aladdin and we are seeking funds to build up our arts program with supplies this year that will help us sustain our arts program.
My Project
In the last year our students have been afforded the opportunity through Disney Musicals in Schools to put on our first ever school play. Our students were able to make both social and academic gains directly from this experience. This year we will put on the play Aladdin for our school community. We will use the body microphones to project our voices. We will use the tools to build our own sets and the glue to help us make costumes during our family nights. We will use the Hershey Kisses to give out "Kisses to the Cast" from their loved ones after the show. We will use the display boards to build the market place stands in the first scene of the show. We will work collaboratively using the materials providing through this project to put together a work of art that will not only inspire us but inspire others around us.
