From Ordinary Classroom to a Public Childrens Science Museum
My students need a variety of early childhood science materials like magnifiers, sensory tubes, and Geosafari Jr. We are also looking for art supplies so that they can create their own materials for the science museum.
15 of my seniors are transforming a regular classroom into a public children's science museum for the children in our neighborhood. It will be free and open to the public unlike most museums in NYC. My students are acquiring important life skills while completing this project.
We are a title 1 school and most of my students come from lower income families.
Most have never experienced a children's museum. They are excited to break the cycle and create a free science museum to children in their neighborhoods by transforming one of our classrooms into a museum.
My Project
Finally a free children's museum in NYC created by young adults! My students are visiting other museums to get ideas and are designing the space, creating pro types and researching for funding to be able to transform one of our classrooms into a museum!
This is so important because my students are learning valuable life skills and are giving back to their own communities.
The museum will be sustainable and we expect to reach out to hundreds of children in our neighborhood!
More than half of students from low‑income households
