This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology moves at breakneck speed and we try to keep up. Staying current does not mean leaving all of the old resources behind. I have dozens of educational videos that I have collected through the years, but the VHS tapes are wearing out. I want to transfer them to DVD so we can still use them.
My students are happy, inquisitive kids from a working class, city neighborhood.
They attend a neighborhood school that has been serving the community for over 100 years. As with all kids their age, they are excited by and comfortable with technology. Unfortunately, neither their hard working parents, nor our cash strapped school can afford to provide the children with the latest resources.
My Project
For years we have been trying to supplement and enrich our teaching with educational videos and movies. There are so many wonderful biographies, science films, even cartoons that teach grammar and math skills. Despite changes in technology, these are still valuable and interesting resources which I love to use in my classroom. Sadly, after many years the VHS tapes are starting to wear out and break. I would like to transfer my old tapes DVD so that I can share them with my students. My children have many different learning styles, and many respond well to lesson presented on film. With this recorder they will have access to both our old videos and the new educational DVDs that now come with all of our textbooks.
Kids today are bombarded with technology and electronic entertainment.
They are so used to watching things on TV and on computers, that they sometimes find it hard to focus on lectures or so called traditional teaching. I want them to have the opportunity to experience rich and varied learning delivered in a way that they respond to. This recorder will allow us to continue to use resources we already have and help the students to master difficult concepts in an easy, comfortable way.
