Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Numerous studies have shown that expanding both vocabulary and background knowledge can boost a student's ability to read and comprehend, resulting in a more proficient reader. My students and I will continue our learning journey together with the knowledge portion of our English Language Arts curriculum which aims to expand both knowledge and vocabulary. We will delve into the fascinating world of insects and be transported back in time to learn about the history of our country during the War of 1812 and the Civil War. We will explore the importance of immigration in the history of the United States and learn about courageous individuals who fought for a cause they believed in and created change. We will close our school year by researching the history of aviation.

Your support of this project will help to continue to fill our second grade classroom library with both nonfiction and fiction texts that will greatly expand the knowledge and vocabulary of our students.

My second graders have benefitted immensely from the books we received from our first Donors Choose project, "From Tall Tales and Fairy Tales to Westward Expansion!"

We are looking forward to keeping the learning momentum going as we discover these new topics. These books and related hands-on life cycle models, will support and expand upon our curriculum resources and allow students to delve deeper into the topics they are learning about during the second half of the year. We would greatly appreciate your support in this project to help our students strengthen both their knowledge of words, as well as their knowledge of the world around them!
