This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help! My daily living skill students need a safe working stove!
My students are multiple disabled children that are in a daily living skill program.
We attend a public school. We work on skills that will help us in our daily lives, such as dressing ourselves, laundry, food shopping and cooking. Our favorite thing to do is cook. We love to plan, prepare, create and eat meals.
My Project
Presently we have this old stove in our classroom. It does not bake evenly or reliably and the stove top is unsafe as it has gone on fire. We really would love to be able to cook/bake our meals in the classroom again so we can see and smell the items as they are cooking/baking. One of our favorite things to do is make cookies at the Holidays. We make several dozen cookies and package them up to be handed out as Thank-You gifts for our secretaries, custodial staff, nurses, principal, special area teachers, cafeteria workers, etc. We love to see how happy we make them. We would love to be able to bake and smell these cookies in our classroom instead of begging the cafeteria workers to bake them for us in their ovens.
Having a new working electric stove back in my classroom will enable me to bring back all the daily living skills associated with baking/cooking that we have had to scale down since the old stove will not allow us to complete our cooking/baking projects.
The students in my class need tasks broken down and repeated often. The inability to demonstrate and use the stove has not allowed me to fulfill the students need in the area of food preparation. A new stove might produce a new Betty Crocker.
